N3KS Kamal “Kam” Sirageldin

Kam was born in Cairo, Egypt. A childhood of international family travel following the career of his father, an eminent economist, saw the family living in several European countries, as well as several destinations in Asia before settling in Baltimore, Maryland for his high school years. He was given a book for his 15th birthday titled “So You Want to be a Ham” which he studied and then passed his license exam in 1975, receiving the callsign WA3ZNJ. In 1979 he obtained the call N3KS. Kam attended the Johns Hopkins University and graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree, and also played several sports including American football and fencing. Upon graduation in 1982, he accepted a job with a French company — Schlumberger Ltd — in the oil wireline services group and was posted to Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, and other nearby countries. Kam left Schlumberger in 1984, taking a job with the Bendix Corporation, primarily working on radars and aircraft avionics systems. He left Bendix in 1997 to form Corp Ten International — the company of which he is still president today.

Although Kam joined the Potomac Valley Radio Club (PVRC) in the early 1980’s, he was primarily a DXer and did not begin contesting until 2004 – when he entered the ARRL Sweepstakes. He was soon invited on his first contest expedition, FS5UQ, and has had a high interest in contesting ever since. Lately he has spent time building a station in Costa Rica, using the contest call TI5W.

Kam presently resides north of Baltimore and enjoys other hobbies such as horseback riding, tennis and motorcycle riding.

I’m looking forward to being in a competition with the best contesters from around the world and having a chance to meet some of the many interesting people who make up the contesting community. This is a lifetime experience made possible by the hard work of the WRTC2014 organizers and their many volunteers and I look forward to camaraderie and friendships that will result from the event.
